Naturgy, Repsol, Reganosa to build up to 200-MW green hydrogen plant in Galicia, Spain

Three Spanish energy companies, Naturgy Energy Group, Repsol and Reganosa, have announced plans to build a green hydrogen plant in Galicia, Spain. The first phase of the project will see a 30 MW electrolyser installed, with the aim of eventually expanding the complex to 200 MW. The plant will be located on the grounds of the now-closed Meirama coal-based power plant in Cerceda, and will be powered by 100% renewable energy. In the initial phase, the plant will produce over 4,000 tonnes of hydrogen per year, with the capacity to produce 30,000 tonnes annually at full capacity. The first phase of the project is set to be operational by 2025. The hydrogen produced will be used by Repsol’s nearby refinery, as well as other industrial consumers, the mobility sector and for blending with natural gas for injection into the gas grid.
